Drummer Bob Burns died in a car crash in Cartersville Georgia on April 3. According to police, he was the only person in the vehicle and was not wearing a seat-belt as he lost control at a curve and hit a mailbox and tree. He was 64.

Burns was a founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd in the mid-’60s. He briefly left the band in 1969 when his parents moved to Orlando, but rejoined just before they were discovered and signed by Al Kooper. By the mid-70’s his mental health was deteriorating so he left the band and spent time in a Jacksonville hospital where he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. His replacement was Artemis Pyle but Burns was able to reunite with Lynyrd Skynyrd for one night in 2006, as  they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
